Explosion occurs at petrol station in Baku, deaths reported

An explosion occurred today at a petrol station's gas tank in Baku's Khatai district, Azerbaijani Emergency Situations Ministry told Trend.

Machinery and manpower of the Emergency Situations Ministry's relevant services were sent to the accident site, and the corresponding services have been informed. Speaking to Trend, the ministry confirmed that two people were killed and another person was injured in the explosion.

The ministry's employees told Trend that the explosion killed two people - Orujov Shamkhal and Imamverdiyev Hasret. The explosion occurred at a Lukoil petrol station, near the radio electronics plant, at 16:20, local time.

Baku City Emergency Medical Aid Station told Trend that a third person, Hashim Turabov, born 1986, was injured and taken to the Republican Neurosurgical Hospital. His state has been evaluated as satisfactory.

Lukoil's representative office in Baku told Trend that the office's management has arrived at the incident site.

The causes of the explosion are being clarified. Trend's correspondent, who reported from the incident site, said that repair works were near completion at the petrol station at the time of explosion.

The killed persons were working at this petrol station.

The corresponding authorities are conducting investigation on the reasons for the explosion.
